Message from BW Board

Hello all,

I'd like to thank all our BW committees and individuals for their good work in making our community safe, eye-appealing, informed and fun.

This past summer we began the repaving/sealing on some of our roads and we plan to continue more work on that project this coming year. We will also be selecting a new landscape contractor shortly as well as continuing the replacement of our aging security cameras and preliminary work to update our Association’s website.

The Board has been very active and involved in all of these projects and they will be completed over a period of years.

We look forward to everyone returning for the winter season and on behalf of the entire Board we all wish you a very happy holiday season and a healthy New Year.

John Wiener

Free Tour: Deseret Ranch – something to do for yourself or with guests

You may not have noticed the signs for Deseret Ranch as you drive west on U.S. 192 or along FL 520 to the Orlando airport, but one of the largest cattle ranches in the U.S. is right outside Melbourne's back door. This Mormon-owned operation of about 450 square miles stretching across Orange, Osceola, and Brevard counties includes vegetable farming and citrus products. And it's done in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way.

From the visitor center off U.S. 192 – about half way to St. Cloud – the free narrated tour takes visitors via an old school bus through the cattle ranges and with an opportunity to see wildlife.

·         Tours are available Monday through Friday, at 10:00 and 1:30 and Saturdays at 10:00.

·         Schedule your tour in advance by calling 407-498-0388.

·         Visitor Center address for GPS: 3584 Orchid Circle, St. Cloud, FL.

·         More info at www.deseretranches.com.

Walking Safety Reminders. Walk on the left side of road, facing traffic, so you can see approaching vehicles even if you cannot hear them. Make eye contact with drivers and walkers. Wear light colored clothing when walking after/in dark.

Sand Dredging for Beaches North of BW.

It's impossible to miss the occasional A1A traffic stops/flagmen for dump trucks leaving and entering the highway with sand for beach renourishment. Correction/Clarification: Last episode noted the dredging of sand for our beaches. The sand for beaches north of Spessard Holland Park is not dredged locally but is transported by ship from its dredging off Cape Canaveral. From the north end of North Spessard Holland Park you can observe the interesting operation of the sand being pumped from the transport ship onto the beach and pushed to the stockpile loading those dump trucks.

Don't be surprised by Frosty as you round the ped-way at the East Pool.

May you have a joy-filled holiday season and a great start on a new year.
